Orang Utan Indonesia Kembali ke Habitatnya

Belum lama terdapat 48 orang utan yang berasal dari Indonesia dikembalikan oleh pihak Thailand. Pengembalian orang utan ke habitat asli Indonesia ini merupakan angin segar bagi gerakan penyelamatan orang utan, yang memang merupakan satwa yang terancam punah. Namun adanya kebakaran hutan di wilayah Kalimantan disinyalir menyebabkan banyak orang utan dilarikan ke luar Indonesia secara ilegal. Benarkah demikian?

Based on the research result of BALITBANG Pengembangan Tanaman Hias Direktorat Tanaman Hias Departemen Pertanian RI explains that Tomohon City is located on the Wallace’s line which caused some specific variety of ornamental plant in Indonesia grows in Tomohon City.

Floriculture in its relation with economics has a backward linkage and forward linkage with the other activities. Apart from that, the activity in agriculture sector especially in floriculture has a comparative advantage with the other activities. Floriculture is an activity that has a sector crossing connection that able to raise the multiplier effect which is very significant for trade link, especially Middle Small Industry so it can help to create opportunities of employment and improves public’s earnings.

Ornamental plant commodity has a strategical meaning for Tomohon City where the flowers expected to be a prime mover in tourism sector and also become a leverage for improvement of earnings and prosperity of Tomohon City’s people.

The strategic position of Tomohon City which becomes a region/city crossing to the capital of North Sulawesi, because located on higher ground (400-1200 dpl). Tomohon has become a Tourism Destination whether it is for ecotourism or agrotourism because of the promising nature condition. Therefore this city is the right choice for people to make this place a secondary house.

What is WOC?

A high level global meeting of head of the states and leaders that have coastal and marine territories.

Why hold WOC ?

International agreements and conventions are important and have been adequately accepted. However, there is a lack of political willingness to drive forward and further implement such agreements.

WOC’09 will provide a platform where world leaders and decision makers will come together to make commitments for sustainable development of marine resources.

Given the fact that Indonesia is the largest archipelagic country and possesses the highest marine biodiversity in the world, the summit will strengthen Indonesia’s participation in the regional and international forum.

Gradual degradation of marine and fisheries resources has been related to over fishing, pollution, and climate change. Global effort to stop this trend is urgently required.
